Two simple and easy ways to accomplish your daily tasks, have a productive day and stay cool when you feel you're starting to lose it. How many of you actually write out your daily tasks to have a clear idea of what you have on your plate?
When you don't, you are not as focussed as you could be, you become easily distracted, and most importantly, you waste energy. The original idea came from Jack Canfield's free 21-day mentoring programme and I've modified it a bit.
1. Write down five things that you intend to do each day and complete them in their order of priority. At the end of the day, do the following:
- Write down, for each of the five goals, (a) why you feel good about your achievement (b) did it work out as you expected, and if not, why not, (c) what follow up action is needed.
- If you were unable to complete a task (d) state why and describe what happened instead, (e) follow up if necessary, and (f) decide how to get back on track the next day.
- If you feel that the outcome was negative (g) state why, and how you intend to turn it around the next day.
Recapitulate your achievements at the end of the day is the best part. Give yourself a nice pat on the back. And even if you didn't do everything on your list at least you know why, and you know exactly what you accomplished.
It is also a way to identify and clarify your feelings about events during your day; something that most people neglect but stew over all the same. Also, items (e) to (g) provide a ready-made list of tasks for the next day. Disorganization begone!
2. Another way to stay stressless during the day when you feel the pressure starting to build up, is to stop and take a breath. Take one long, deep breath and relax your shoulders. Take another long, deep, slow breath and feel your stomach and chest muscles loosen.
Continue breathing slowly and deeply eight more times - in through your nose and out through your mouth. If you could do this for five minutes, do so. It is particularly effective when you can't think straight anymore. Staying as stress-free as possible is what it's all about. Here is another technique on how to become stressless.
It would be better to complete your list of goals the night before because when you wake the next morning, your intentions would already be recorded in your mind. You will be clear and focussed.
