5 Easy ways to improve your life, taking 30 days at a time by local author Roslyn Carrington (featured in the Trinidad Guardian on 22 June 2014).

Not only are they easy to do but they actually work. I need to practice number 5 often because when I'm in a bad  mood or feeling down, I get mean at times.

Folks, the difference, the quiet inside that comes from stilling the incessant commenting on others is just amazing. Try them and surprise yourself. Our lives are fuller than we sometimes believe.

I call these self-improvement tips everyday spirituality because we are turned on when we tune in! Roslyn writes:

30 Days at a time
Every once in a while we stop and take stock of ourselves, adn feel like we should change something. The problem lies int he mistaken belief that we should make huge, life-shaking changes... and that's when we become discouraged.

The secret is to take on small, easy challenges, that take very little effort, but add up to so much in the end.

Here are 5 easy 30-day challenges that won't take a whole lot out of you, but which are sure to add richness to your life.

1. Watch one documentary a day for 30 days. Try short pieces like those on TED talks, they usually run 15 minutes or so. Browse through and pick from the endless variety of topics. Be sure to share what you learned.

2. Take a photo every day for 30 days.  Keep your phone or pocket camera nearby, and keep an eye out for something that touches you or says something about your life. Post your photos online or in a private journal, with a short note explaining what the shot means to you. You'd be surprised how textured your life will seem once you open your eyes.

3. Say hello to a stranger every day for 30 days. No, not creepy looking guys on the street but people you pass by or interact with wordlessly all the time. The cashier at the store, the doubles man, the janitor at the office. "Hello? How are you? How's your day going?" can make all the difference in someone else's day.

4. Take a cold shower every day for 30 days. No joke; most of us have become a little too dependent on the luxury of warm showers. A good, bracing daily shower will brighten your skin, wake you up, and make you more alert to face the day. It will also make you less dependent on first-world niceties that the vast majority of the world does without.

5. Swallow negative or pessimistic comments about yourself and others for 30 days. You'll be surprised how eliminating negativity from the tip of your tongue also erases it from your heart and your  mood. You'll start to feel lighter in no time.

Try one of these challenges, starting today.

Enthusiasm is a treasure worth its weight in gold. In seeking this treasure there are strategies that you can use to cultivate it in both yourself and others.

As you choose to develop the habit of enthusiasm remember that the closer you associate your desire with a strong motive, the quicker you will see the benefit in developing this characteristic.

Dr. Hill states: “Controlled enthusiasm alerts the imagination, adds attractiveness to your personality, and inspires your Personal Initiative and self-confidence.”

Obviously, there is a great reward in cultivating enthusiasm in relationship to your definite major purpose.

Suggestions for cultivating enthusiasm are:

1. Tie your enthusiasm to a strong motive. The three major motives are: the emotion of love, the emotion of sex, and the desire for financial gain. Singly, or in combination, these motives are said to rule the world. If you can combine two or three, you will further intensify your capacity for immediate and long lasting progress.

2. Act enthusiastic to feel enthusiastic. By acting the part you can acquire the characteristic.

3. Encourage others to be enthusiastic. Become a cheerleader for your program and others will catch your spirit and jump on board.

4. Consider several things that you enjoy. Make a list of ten topics. Speak about, read out loud about, and share your knowledge on one or more of these topics. Notice how enthusiasm naturally enters your voice when you are working in connection with something you love doing.

5. Compliment another person on something they do well. Fill your tone of voice with enthusiasm for their enjoyment. Make them feel like the center of the universe because you recognized them for their achievement. This will kick up the positive mood because of the higher vibration of thought and feel good emotions.

6. Look forward to something in the future. Plan for success, and be strongly enthusiastic about the outcome as the time nears. Whether it is a vacation, a dinner, or just a simple hour alone, be enthusiastic about the approaching opportunity and you will be surprised at how much the event turns out to be as you specifically envisioned it.

Consider cultivating enthusiasm in your daily activities. You will not only feel better, but you will accomplish more with ease minus the struggle. By visualizing and vitalizing your goals you will be amazed at how much sooner they will manifest in your present life. Fortunately, enthusiasm is a habit everyone can utilize and enjoy.

Why not begin right now and BE ENTHUSIASTIC about something!

7 Ways to Discover Your Soul's Desires and Change Your Life

AddThis Social Bookmark Button
Best Blogger Tips
Source: 1.bp.blogspot.com
Self-improvement is the only way to empowering yourself. This journey is never finished when you consciously decide to change what is not working in your life.

It doesn't matter if it's more "things", more money, more recognition, etc. Your clue is that dissatisfied feeling of not-enoughness after getting what you thought you wanted.

We all experience these feelings but not many of us are brave enough though, to heed and follow those yearnings that just will not go away. It's your soul's desires calling and it makes for a sad, silent and deeply unhappy person when you ignore it and forge ahead with your "planned" life.

You can begin taking small steps toward understanding yourself, by clarifying your thoughts in order to discover who you really are. This is important because we all lie to ourselves, daily. Only then would you begin to unearth what makes you unique. That's all part of the journey, not the so-called achievement at the end because learning never ends.

Success and happiness go hand in glove when we do what we love. Seriously and I didn't believe that until it happened to me! This is as natural as the rising and setting of the sun, birdsong in springtime, reflections in clear pools and the smile on a baby's face. We always need so many words to try to describe a particular feeling, don't we...

As Abraham-Hicks says there's really no problem and there will be no struggle if we all just go with the flow instead of fighting against the current of what is simply because we have been taught to believe this way is normal.

Personal growth is why we are here - we are spiritual beings living a human experience - and everyone has their role to play so you must focus on yours only and forge ahead. 7 ways to Discover Your Soul's Desires and Change Your Life.

If you knew everything was really all right, and that it always has a happy ending, then you would not feel trepidacious about your future. Everything is really so very all right! If you could believe and trust that, then, immediately everything would automatically and instantly become all right.
~Abraham

1. Journal Every Day

Journalling clarifies your thoughts and feelings, highlights your motivations and unearth insights into particular events which did not strike you at the time. A journal is a private chat between you and your Self. It's a great way to vent without hurting anyone's feelings, be abusive as you like and get the shit of your chest that's stressing you to the max.

What a fantastic tool for self-discovery when you review it days, weeks or months later, identifying what makes you tick and get ticked off, your shadow side, your warts with which you must become comfortable, and the challenges you face climbing your ladder of personal growth. After years of practice, I discover new insights all the time about myself and others that didn't strike me at the time! It works. Drop your Self a few lines each day.

2. Meditation

Source: 4.bp.blogspot.com
Most people don't think of meditation as a means of improving themselves. If I didn't go to my inner well of stillness every day, I would still be a basket case today. My Jungian psychologist encouraged me many years ago to journal every day.

I now know for sure that meditation is the perfect way to become stressless and feel good all the time!

Sitting or lying comfortably and quietly without interruptions for fifteen to thirty minutes each day, in a calm space by yourself, with or without soothing music, focussing on your breath going in and out of your nostrils, clears unnecessary thoughts from your head.

It works because you are no longer thinking. You are focussed instead on your breath going in and out of your nostrils or your belly or wherever you feel it.

Afterwards, you feel calmer, think clearer and are able to act in a more thoughtful manner.

It is a proven medical fact that continued meditation improves your digestion, health, sleep pattern and minimises stress. The key word here is practice. Make the time every day whether you stay in bed longer in the morning or you do so before going to bed.

3. Maintain Positive Thoughts

This appears to be the most difficult to achieve but that's because you allow others to influence and manipulate you especially when they know that you are intent on change for your betterment. People are like that. Don't be surprised by it.

When you expect a negative outcome you will get exactly that and unless and until become aware of your thoughts and deliberately stop yourself and think something positive and uplifting. Continue to review your objectives and remind yourself about why you want to change and improve your life.

The only way to achieve success is to expect positive results. You and only you, are responsible for the thoughts you think! Are you really going to allow some silly, self-serving bitchy complaining critical remark, aimed to hurt and derail you, put you off your game? Are you really and truly going to allow challenges to impede your progress when you know how far you have come?

I have discovered that the best way to nix all this crap is by writing down your desires, coming up with achievable goals, creating a plan of action to make them come true one step at a time and every.single.night. list what you created that day. Re-read the previous list of everything that went well. Nothing brings a bigger smile to your face than that. Rock on!

The starting point of all achievement is desire.
~Napoleon Hill

4. Written Goals Require Action!

A written goal is your intention you send out to the Universe. Write down a small goal, one thing that you know you can do right now and is so inconsequential that it's not a big deal and tape that piece of paper or index card somewhere you will see it every day. When you see your written goal in black and white, you automatically begin thinking of ways to achieve it.

You want to take action to make it come true because seeing it keeps it active at the front of your mind. How long did it take to make it happen? Wasn't it great and that was a "small goal"! Imagine the greater feeling of satisfaction on something more significant!

Writing down your goals and seeing them in black and white activates your imagination and you begin thinking of ways to achieve it. Ideas come from the most unlikely sources at times because you have taken the most important step to crystallise your desire. You want to make it happen.

When you feel depressed or disappointed with yourself, as will happen, when plans don't work out, go back to your list. Write down the what and the how and be honest about the why (you and your actions), then decide and course correct with a new action plan. Failure only happens when you stop trying. And where did i get all this...from Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich.

5. Journey of your soul's desires

Allow meditation to be your anchor and the pivot around which you improve the areas of your life that you know need work. You will need it once you embark on this journey of your soul's desires and make no mistake, this is what it is - resistance creates the most exquisitely painful experiences - everything in your life will be affected including your relationships, your health and your finances.

Personal growth means powerful change and you will find yourself often out of balance as you ramp it up. Consequently, it is essential to maintain or begin a physical fitness routine (as simple as a daily walk starting slow and building up your stamina). Meditation will take care of your mental and emotional fitness. You need social support from like-minded people like yourself who are genuinely rooting for your success. Community centers, Facebook groups and such are good options. Go with the flow: the direction of least resistance.

Strength and growth come only through continuous effort
and struggle. ~Napoleon Hill

6. Affirmations

Positive affirmations will change you negative self talk you - that inner dialogue that is constantly repeating and self defeating. For me, Louise Hay has the best affirmations. Use those that resonate with you or create your own. Nothing exaggerated eh. It has to be general! This powerful tool can turn your life around and nix your discontented mind chatter.

Write down and repeat your affirmations every day, out loud and preferably in front of a mirror at home. Keep them with you in your bag or wallet or pocket. When you practice repeating affirmations, silently and out loud, you are in effect retraining your subconscious mind with positive self-talk.

7. You Teach What You Need To Learn

You take charge of your personal growth by teaching what you need to learn. Sure, you know the subject. That's not the issue. You teach what you learn however this is about self-growth and mistakes and self-correcting puts you and keeps you on course and everyone benefits. It's a perfect way of sharing yourself with the world.

EFT SCRIPT - Find Your Success Frequency

Best Blogger Tips
Source: bethsawickie.com
Find Your Success Frequency is EFT Master Carol Look's latest offering in an EFT script in Issue #266 of her online newsletter.

For those new to the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), you can learn EFT and how it could benefit you. It is a simple, non-invasive finger tapping technique based on Chinese acupuncture but without the needles, and EFT works on almost everything.

This EFT script will with continued use enable you to develop an attitude of gratitude, and is a powerful empowerment technique for success in whatever you want to achieve. This is the law of vibration at work and this is one way in which how we attract abundance into our lives.
Find Your Success Frequency...

Yes, we all have a success frequency. When I "found" mine, I was able to recognize how it felt and could tune into it regularly so that attracting success and abundance was easy and fun for me.  Finding it also allowed me to recognize when I was moving away from it, or why I was moving away from it so I could then take the time to tune back into it.

You will not be able to tune into success and abundance in your life on purpose until you Find Your Success Frequency.

So, what is it?? What is Your Success Frequency ?  It is a feeling that you have when you absolutely know you are in the right place...  It is a mood you are in when you know and believe good things are coming to you.

It is optimism, it is joy, and gratitude.  It is a specific vibration that you, and only you, associate with the small and large successes you have felt and experienced in your life.  We all have individualized success frequencies, which is why it's so vital for each one of us to tune into our personal vibration.

The reason you need to Find Your Success Frequency is because when you recognize what it feels like, you can tune back into it whenever you wish. You can access this frequency and change your attitude and vibrational stance right on the spot.

Yes, you might feel surprised when your manifestations start to show up quickly, but I'm sure you can handle that!

How do you Find Your Success Frequency
Remember a success from your past, relive a fabulous feeling, re-feel past successes and focus in on current blessings in your life.

Feel grateful, feel appreciative, notice feelings of love and generosity.
Again, the best benefit of being able to Find Your Success Frequency is that you will be able to tune into it regularly and reliably, and then repeat the process of attracting success on demand.

The primary reason you do not attract success easily into your life is because you are tuned in to different frequencies - doubt, worry, fear, lack - and these frequencies can only yield situations that mirror their vibration.

When you tune into the frequency of success, you will attract opportunities that match THAT frequency.

I know it sounds simplistic - find it, tune into it, enjoy it - I also know it works.  I also know that you can not be successful if you feel like a failure, so you need to Find Your Success Frequency to be able to actually BE successful - personally and professionally.

When you Find Your Success frequency, you communicate to the Universe that you are aligned with your desires and that you are truly lined up to receive more success.  Your vibration will be more alive and abundant, and the results will be undeniable.
Our thoughts, feelings and behaviors carry energy...
Our vibration matters!

Remember that the Universe hears your vibration not your words.  The principles of the Law of Attraction remind us that we will receive more of what we are "broadcasting" to the Universe when we are in alignment with it.

When the Universe is able to receive a clear message from you (no energetic or emotional interference) then the Law of Attraction works in your favor.  So when you are able to Find Your Success Frequency, the Universe will support you by opening up new channels of abundance.
Below you will find EFT setup phrases to help you be inspired to release your blocks to being able to attract what you want into your life.
When you change your vibration,
you will change your life.

BE THE CHANGE - Take Those Steps to Freedom - It is Inside of You

Steps to Freedom by  Madisyn Taylor of DailyOM strikes a chord in me in this year of 2014 where my resolve to embody the feeling of positively conscious and serene is taking a serious beating.

Life is about accepting daily changes as they occur and that means everyday spirituality to me.

My difficulties simply highlight the veils that must be torn away and the people I meet tell me and show me the manner in which I must evolve by not just facing my "ugly" truth but also knowing when I must remain true to myself and my beliefs.

Right now, it's about absolutely fearless me (or so I thought) having to;

  • face down an abuser, a bully and a neanderthal all rolled into one in a police case; I faced the fear I didn't know was there.
  • confront an intelligent, gifted and almost schizoid individual who believes that everyone is against her no matter what she does and childishly demands that I show care and concern for her while at the same time she tries to bend me to her will via emotional blackmail and threats and makes denigrating remarks in the misguided belief of having superior knowledge; I extended kindness towards her while severing our relationship at the same time. That was new and rewarding for me. And finally,
  • walk away from the mentally disabled women in the homeless shelter where I lived as I have finally accepted after two long years that I cannot assist them in any tangible way.  Sadly, they all decided that they did not want to change anything in their lives. Even though they said that to me at before I didn't believe it. I thought I could change their outlook and thus their minds but that was futile and I feel very sad about it. I walked away with a tear in my heart and good wishes in mind for them all.
Facing these challengers force me to face not only my beliefs but also lisen to their truths about me and question myself about it. I know my truth only after I examine my feelings, bypassing the instinctive anger at the disrespect shown.

I love who I am, right now!

Nothing has the power to move you from what you know to be right. You are unshakeable.

We all will take those steps to freedom or diminish and die - and we all have been on this road reincarnation after reincarnation for quite a while now - and it's not about free speech or anything so mundane.

No, the freedom of which I speak is inside of you, and you, and you. When you free yourselves from the bondage of other people's beliefs and step into your own, you will move mountains by your very determination and perseverance and passion for whatever cause inspires you.

It's not about placard waving although there's that too if it's your style. There's also quiet diplomacy and communication, community development activities, keeping your family together through thick and thin. Whatever moves you to act, grasp it, hold on tight, follow it through to the end and amaze yourself.

That's right, you're doing it for your Self. When you take those steps to freedom, you not only inspire others but those around you benefit in countless ways. You have to be the change; there is no one else!

 STEPS TO FREEDOM

Change What Isn’t Working

If we don't change what isn't working in our lives, we will continually have the same day over and over again.

We have all had the experience of realizing that something in our lives is not working. This knowledge can come as a sudden realization or a nagging feeling of doubt that grows stronger, waking us up to the fact that something needs to change.

Some people have a tendency to act rashly and make sweeping changes before even understanding what the problem is. Other people fear change, so they live with the uncomfortable awareness that something needs to shift but won’t do anything about it. Between these two extreme responses lies a middle way that can help us powerfully and gracefully change what isn’t working in our lives.

The first step is remembering that your life is made up of parts that belong to an interconnected whole. Changing one thing can change everything. Because of this, small changes often have a big effect. Sometimes much bigger changes are necessary, but the only way to know for sure is to take the time to really understand the problem.

Examine your life as an entirety—your work, your relationships, where you live—and determine what specifically is not functioning the way you would like. Once you have figured out the problem, write it down on a piece of paper.

For example, “I am not happy with my relationship” or “I don’t like my apartment.”

The next step is to figure out the adjustment you would like to make and how you can go about making this change.

If you are unhappy with your relationship because you spend too much or not enough time with your partner, you may want to discuss this problem with them and come up with a compromise.

On the other hand, if you realize your relationship is not working to such a degree that it needs to end, begin working through that process. Writing down the truth can be a powerful catalyst for change.

The key to making changes that work is to accept the necessity of change as part of life. As we change, we may find it necessary to fine-tune our relationships, work, and living situations. Our lives are living, breathing entities that reflect our dynamic selves.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT - The Joy of Being Happy is a Naturally Who We Are

AddThis Social Bookmark Button
Best Blogger Tips
Nothing more need be said about the folks at DailyOM except sign up to their newsletter and sup on their missives that really do nurture the mind, body and spirit. Here's one of their gems about happiness - everyday spirtuality - that's my food for thought for today.

Happiness is a gift you must unwrap each day.

The Joy of Being

Source: pinimg.com
You could be in high spirits and might wish to share your feelings of delight with others today. Relishing in the joy of being alive may be the reason for your carefree and happy mood. Perhaps you might simply stay present with your feelings today.

During the day you can notice where your sense of pleasure takes you. It may be the enjoyment of living in your body, the emotional sensations you feel, or the high you get from being with others. Try to remain present with whatever manifestation of your happiness arises.
When you are with other people you can remember these feelings and create the intention that they also share in the same joy. Not only may others be drawn to you but they may also be inspired to spread the mutual joyfulness you all feel to others.

Experiencing contentment in simply being alive is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves. For so many of us, joy seems to be a guilty pleasure since we are often taught that happiness is something we get only if we work hard at it. Feeling happiness, however, is a natural part of who we are.

Savoring it makes us value it all the more. When we learn to accept this, it becomes natural to want to share it, for being happy with ourselves allows us to reach out to others with an open heart more easily. By delighting in who you are today, you will foster joy not only in yourself but in your community as well.

An Easy 2-Step Yoga Pose to StressLessness

AddThis Social Bookmark Button
Best Blogger Tips
Legs up the wall is an easy 2-step yoga pose to ease stress and is taken from the Mentality magazine, Issue 122. I'm sure you've seen little kids do this, instinctively, which should tell you something about them. Now, it's time for you adults to relearn how to relax, easily.

Leg up the wall pose

This pose quiets the nervous system and mind while relieving fatigue, itself a major stressor. In the illustrations, you have two options for the leg pose, one with knees slightly bent and the other with legs straightened against the wall. Follow your comfort zone.

1- Roll three blankets or a bolster against the wall. Sit facing the wall with your knees bent and then lie down on your back. (Some can do this without any back/hip support but that has another function.)

2- Now, lift your legs and hips and slide forward so that your hips are on top of the blankets or bolster, and the backs of your legs are either i) slightly bent or straightened against the wall and ii) are pointing towards the ceiling.
Stay in this position for 5 to 10 minutes, then roll your knees to the side and sit up, then take your time standing up and have a big glass of water to flush the toxins.
In this position, your shoulders will be lower than your hips. This opens up your chest area. Do not tense up your muscles. Relax into the position.

This inversion of your head lower than your feet causes a rush of fresh blood to your brain, neck and chest and quiets your nervous system. The increased blood flow tricks your brain into thinking that your blood pressure is high and it lowers it in response.
Isn't it the most marvelous instrument of technology!

Repeat as needed.

3 Simple Steps to Relax and Be StressLess

AddThis Social Bookmark Button
Best Blogger Tips

Source: tune2peace.com
I am a huge fan of the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). It works on almost everything! EFT is a natural, non-invasive tapping technique where we use our fingers to gently tap on various points (meridians) of the face, chest and hands, to relieve stress.

EFT, like all other accupressure techniques is based on the Chinese accupuncture without the needles.

It's quite easy to learn EFT and how it could benefit you. You must however take responsibility for any underlying emotion - the real reason you feel stressed (hurt, angry, afraid etc.) - which may arise as you tap.

In this post however, I describe 3 simple steps to relax and become stressless taken from Tricia Mangray's - owner of Aveda Day Spa - article Pressure Points to Relaxation (Woman's Weekly, Issue 122).

A pressure point called the "Gamut Point" in EFT is a hotline to balancing stress in many different places on the body, notably the brain. It is located between the little finger and ring finger bones of the back of either hand.

I guarantee that tapping on the Gamut Point will relieve any tension you are feeling, at any time. I know because I have been tapping on this one only for two months while living through my own crises of snot, rage and disappointment without using all of the normal EFT points listed on the chart.

Source: griefandmourning.com
1. Begin tapping gently on the Gamut point with the index or two fingers of your other hand. Since these points exist on both hands, it doesn't matter which you use. Think of the stressful situation and keep tapping for 30 seconds or until you feel the need to change as it can become quite sensitive at times.

2. Next, tap on the top of your head at the "Hundred Meetings" point for 30 seconds. All acupuncture points meet here. It is exactly in the middle of your head or where a puppet might have a string attached to the top of its head.

3. Return to the Gamut point and tap for another 30 seconds.  Take a huge breath in and release all of your stress and tension with it. Feel the glow of pure, clean relaxation spreading over you and most importantly, drink a glass of water to flush the toxins released.

This relaxation technique can be used anywhere, anytime and as often as necessary. Whenever you feel to the tension arising, take a five-minute restroom break to breath in and out a few times and tap to stress less.
